Kevin Lafferty, better known as "SARGE" has been active in the samurai community for quite some time.  This month we put him on the Hot Seat!

 

1. What is your full name?
Kevin Lafferty

2. Where were you born?
Princeton , Illinois . Salt of the Earth .

3. How old are you?
Uh, 39 . I think...

4. Any brothers or sisters?
One sister , four years younger .

5. Where do you currently live?
Ohio , Illinois . Salt Pit of the Earth .

6. Where do you currently work?
Laborer's Local 393 . Home right now...

7. What do you do there?
Heavy Highway , Nuclear Plant Maint , various types of construction generally .

8. Do you have a nick name that you go by?
Sarge

9. How long have you been into the sport of off-roading?
Wow. Probably going on 20yrs now .

10. Who or what first got you interested in the sport?
Ditch riding in my first car , an old Dodge Monaco .

11. Are you involved in any off-road clubs, and if so what is the name of your club?
Founder: Midwest Off Road Enthusiasts

12. What is the year, make, and model of your current off-road 4x4?
1988.5 Suzuki Samurai JX , or it was anyway .

13. How long have you had it?
Almost 8yrs now .

14. Why did you choose this particular 4x4?
It chose me . Cheap, and needed some work . I had planned to fix it and resell it . The rest , well....

15. Is this your first off-road 4x4?
Refer to question #10 ....

16. What’s the BEST modification you’ve made to your 4x4?
All the engine mods .

17. What’s the WORST modification you’ve made?
33's on stock axles .

18. What’s the scariest moment you’ve ever had off-roading?
Perching it on the rear tires at the Badlands . Ask Ranger Rick ....

19. What was the funniest?
The day a fuel pressure regulator failed and I set fire to a tree 20' off the ground with the flames out of the exhaust .

20. What have you learned from the sport that you can apply to your everyday life?
Diversity is what brings us all together . The wide variety of people I've met in this sport shows what we can if we all work as a group .

21. If you could sit down and talk to anyone, past or present, who would it be and why?
Leonardo DeVinci . He had some ideas , I have a lot more ...the two of us could be interesting .

22. What was the name of the last book you read?
The Long Walk . Can't recall the author , sorry .

23. What was the last movie that you watched?
The Pink Panther Returns

24. What is your favorite style of music?
Heavy metal , classical . They are actually very much the same .

25. What do you like to listen to on the trails?
Alice In Chains , loud .

26. When your not off-roading, or working, how do you like to spend your time?
Building people very powerful parts . Oops, that's work I guess . Maybe spending time with my wife and daughter , and our pets .

27. If I gave you a free ticket to visit anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Italy . I gotta visit the Ferrari , Lamborghini , and Weber factories . Got a few ideas to share ....

28. Name someplace that you have visited that you would love to visit again.
Colorado .

29. If you could give one piece of advice to any future off-road enthusiasts, what would it be?
Wheel it stock first . Then wheel it some more until you learn some skills . Then start by building it to be reliable first , bling later ...
