Brent MayOn the Hot Seat
with Brent May

Another year of the Hot Seat, and another year of meeting new people and going new places.  I hope this coming year is as enjoyable for you as the past year has been for me!  Hope to see you on the trails!

Click through for a closer look...1. Tell us your full name?
Steven James Murray

2. Where and when were you born?
Calgary Alberta, Canada May 25th 1988 – Yes, I am only presently 17

3. Do you have any brother’s or sisters?
Younger Brother, Nicholas

4. Where do you live now?
At home with my Mom in Calgary.

5. Where do you work?
Taco Bell!

6. What do you do there?
Head honcho in the back making food most of the time.

7. Do you have a nick name that you like to go by?
DJ or Steve

8. How did you get this Nickname?
Shortened forum handle or shortened name…

9. How many years have you been into the sport of off roading?
Loved it for 4 or 5 years, only got my Sami in September ‘05 though.

10. Who, or what first got you interested in the sport?
Wheelin' with my dad when I was younger, man a stock Isuzu Rodeo will go places with a good driver behind the wheel ;)

Click through for a closer look...11. Are you involved in any off-road club’s? If so, what is the name of your club?
Trying to get involved with Whiteknight.com and that gang, have not been wheelin' with them yet though, have to wait for the summer.

12. What are the year, make, and model of your current trail rig?
1987 Suzuki Samurai

13. How long have you had it?
Not even 4 months

14. Does it have a nickname?
Bonerzuki :o

15. Why did you choose this rig to off-road?
I originally liked heeps, but then I started reading and did not want to deal with the oil leaks, gaskets, cooling system issues and high cost, so I moved onto Toy mini-trucks…Started looking again at SWB vehicles and saw a built Sami drive past me one day, after searching I fell in love. Same SWB, great aftermarket, light…mostly seemed like it would be a fun truck to have! That and there’s a great group of guys on the zu, zookpower, iZook, etc..

16. What's the best modification you've done to it so far?
YJ springs and the Trail Tough kit. Will do my own fab next time though!

17. What's the worst modification?
Trying to make my own top.

18. What’s the scariest moment you’ve ever had off-roading?
When my dad climbed a rock wall and somehow got turned around so he had to finish it backwards…

19. What was the funniest?
Driving down a washed out snowmobile trail in May, getting hit by a snow storm and getting stuck down there...

20. What have you learned from the sport that you can apply to your everyday life?
Things aren’t going to magically come together. They take planning, preparation and drive to pull together most of the time.

Click through for a closer look...21. If you could sit down and talk to anyone, past or present, who would it be and why?
This is a tough one. I would like to just sit down with another guy who shares the same type of interests. That’s why I like Zuwharrie so much, it’s a very social place and there’s always someone who shares 2 or more interests with you.

22. Books on tape, or sit down and read?
I like to sit down and read, nothing sticks when I hear it from tape…I have to be in a good mood to read as well, or I get reading the same line 6 times and I have to stop :D

23. DVD at home or Theater?
DVD at home, definitely. There’s always that one annoying person in the theater you wish you could cram that 32oz cup down his or her throat.

24. What is on your MP3, or in your CD player right now?
In Flames, KillSwitch Engage, Linkin Park, Sonata Arctica and Boston

25. Radio, CD’s or “Trail Music” when your wheeling?
Trail music, can’t do heavy metal when wheeling, always am trying to listen, got to love the outdoors.

26. When you're not off-roading, or working, how do you like to spend your time?
Driving or working on my truck…I have gotten bitten by a bug here and I don’t think there is a cure for this…

27. If I gave you a free ticket to visit anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Jamaica, I spent a day there a couple of years ago…awesome people, and a great area…lots of zukis too!

28. What did you want to be most as a kid?
Mountain Biker, bad knees and shoulders put an end to that though.

29. If you could learn to speak any language that you do not already know, what would it be?
Probably Spanish, it can be a really nice sounding language.

30. What is your best time of the day, morning, noon, or night?
Anytime, people just have to let me know what to do and when…I’m pretty much always up for it!

Click through for a closer look...31. What’s your most embarrassing moment (so far)?
I am “Red-Green Color Deficient” Really, I have a hard time telling what color my truck is, and I have colored way to many pictures with purple instead of blue…Oh well, won’t be a bomb-technician when I get older! (“Is this red on green or the green on red???”)

32. Have you ever met anyone famous, and if so, who?
Most famous person I have met would have to be John Cowan, he is a Bike rider for Kona Mountain Bikes, gnarly dude he is.

33. If you could give any piece of advice to a future off-roader, what would it be?
Research before you build, and then build it right the first time. I spent 5 months reading darn near every post on Zuwharrie before I even got my rig, I am really happy with the end product.

Thank you DJ, and you are now off the Hot Seat
