continued...

After I had all the strength built into my rear bumper I still needed lights. I searched around at the trailer shops in the area looking for lights and couldn't find any that would fit well into the 5" space of the bumper. Either I would have too big a hole to cut or they would 'be too large for the outside of the bumper channel.

While spending a few days combing the auto parts stores I found what I was looking for. Do those lights look familiar??  The tail light assemblies came from an early 70's Ford Pickup truck!!  I rotated them 90 degrees and cut out the holes in the bumper and they fit right in. I had to wire in a trailer light assembly to make the Suzuki wiring work with the 2 bulb setup (turn/tail/stop, backup) instead of the standard Suzuki 3 bulb setup but they work nicely.

In Virginia I must have marker lights on the sides at the rear to pass inspection so I took a small set of red markers from "Manny, Moe, and Jack" and welded the rest of the "C" channel I had into a bracket for the lights. I may have to go back and revise the marker light situation as it may grab things on the trail but for now it serves the purpose of  giving me the lights.

The total cost of the bumper/tire carrier setup was about $150.00 for the steel stock, the lights/trailer block and hardware and there were quite a few hours spent with welding/cutting.
